Container Scanner Services are offered to help protect against the security risks posed by international trade and enhance traditional Customs tasks. Cotecna uses non-intrusive cargo scanning technology to verify the contents of containers and thereby improve cost efficiency for Customs. Scanners have the advantage of being able to analyze the contents of consignments quickly and accurately, without having to unpack containers. Conventional x-ray scanners can be used to detect objects based on their density and shape, but not their composition. The technology used by Cotecna, however, is a neutron scanner, which is unique in its use of gamma rays and neutron analysis to build an image and help identify the composition of the object being scanned.
